  • Lookout points: are you in good shape and looking for a 2 to 3-hour day hike? This trekking is the perfect scenario to observe in front row two of the most iconic emblems of the Paine Mountain chain.

  • The base of the Towers: With 8 hours of walking time, this is one of the most iconic routes of Torres del Paine National Park, a  segment within the famous W-Circuit. You’ll enjoy a demanding trekking and unforgettable view - weather permitting!

Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego National Park – ANTARCTICA Expedition towards the remotest corners of the planet

DAY
09

Enjoy a perfect morning exploring Tierra del Fuego National Park unconventionally and having a gourmet lunch in a quiet,  panoramic place.

Your friendly and local expert guide will adapt the day to your own pace, so you can relax and enjoy the fantastic scenery of this little corner of the world while avoiding the crowds as much as possible.

Today’s highlights:

  • Enjoy a half-day trip full of information that covers all of Ushuaia’s best panoramics and exciting points.

  • Visit the end of all roads in America, in unforgettable places like Ensenada Bay and Lapataia Bay.

  • Later, you will embark on the adventure of your lifetime, the spectacular 12 to 13-day Antarctica Expedition.

Bonus 1: We take care of all logistics.

As part of our curated service, we will take care of today’s logistics so you can have fun. Your local guide will arrange cruise check-in and luggage delivery and, at the scheduled time, will drop you off at the Port just in time to start the Antarctica Expedition adventure.

Bonus 2: Not just “Another Cruise.”

You’ll join the Antarctic Peninsula Basecamp cruise, which offers many ways to explore and enjoy the Antarctic Region. This expedition allows you to hike, snowshoe, kayak, mountaineering, and even camp under the Southern Polar skies.

Do I have to be fit to join an expedition?

You must be in good general health and able to walk for several hours daily. The expedition is ship-based and physically not very demanding. Although guests spend as much time as possible on shore, you can remain aboard the ship.

To join most excursions, you must be able to get up and down the steep gangway from the ship to the water level to board the Zodiacs. Staff will assist you in and out of the boats. This will become progressively easier with practice, although it can be slippery and rocky on shore.

Good to know about Antarctica:

All itineraries are for guidance only since they may vary depending on ice, weather, and wildlife conditions. Landings are subject to site availabilities, permissions, and environmental concerns per IAATO regulations. Official sailing plans and landing slots are scheduled with IAATO before the start of the season, but the expedition leader determines the final plan. Flexibility is paramount for expedition cruises.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Accommodation: Antarctica Expedition Cruise - External Cabin with windows in all-inclusive and all offered activities (including camping, kayaking, snowshoe/hiking, mountaineering, photo workshop) as well as  standard included shore excursions and zodiac cruises) are free of charge.

Path of the polar explorers

DAY
10-11

Over the next two days on the Drake Passage, you enjoy some of the same experiences encountered by the great polar explorers who first charted these regions:  cool salt breezes, rolling seas, and maybe even a fin whale spouting up sea spray.

Today’s highlight:

  • You’ll pass the Antarctic Convergence – Antarctica’s natural boundary, formed when north-flowing cold waters collide with warmer sub-Antarctic seas – you are in the circum-Antarctic upwelling zone.

  • You’ll notice that not only does the marine life change, but the avian life also changes too. Wandering albatrosses, grey-headed albatrosses, black-browed albatrosses, light-mantled sooty albatrosses, cape pigeons, southern fulmars, Wilson’s storm petrels, blue petrels, Antarctic petrels are a few of the birds you might see.

Meals: All meals throughout the voyage aboard the ship, including snacks, coffee, and tea. Accommodation: Antarctica Expedition Cruise - External Cabin with windows.

Entering Antarctica

DAYs
12-18

We can describe what you will experience today; however, words are not enough:

  • Gray stone peaks sketched with snow,

  • towers of broken blue-white ice

  • dramatically different wildlife below and above

You first pass the snow-capped Melchior Islands and Schollaert Channel, sailing between Brabant and Anvers Islands.

Places you might visit include: (Naturally, favorable weather conditions determine the possible activities).

  • Neumayer Channel – The vessel may position itself here, launching its multiple basecamp activities from the protected waters around Wiencke Island. You can enjoy the splendors of this alpine environment at sea with Zodiac and kayaking trips, or if you’re in the mood for a walk, there are possible snowshoe hikes and soft-climb mountaineering options farther inland.

  • Port Lockroy – After sailing through the Neumayer Channel, you may get a chance to visit the former British research station – now a museum and post office – of Port Lockroy on Goudier Island. You may also be able to partake in activities around Jougla Point, meeting gentoo penguins and blue-eyed shags. At the nearby sites, such as Damoy Point, there may be the opportunity for snowshoeing to the old skyway; this is also one of our favorite camping sites.

  • Pléneau & Petermann Islands – If the ice allows it, you can sail through the Lemaire Channel for Adélie penguins and blue-eyed shags. There’s also a good chance you’ll encounter humpback and minke whales here, as well as leopard seals. Kayaking, glacier walks, and more ambitious mountaineering trips are the potential activities of this location.

  • Neko Harbour – An epic landscape of mammoth glaciers and endless wind-carved snow, Neko Harbour offers opportunities for a Zodiac cruise and landing that afford the closest views of the surrounding alpine peaks.

  • Paradise Bay – You can camp here like a true polar explorer, enjoying a supreme overnight Antarctic adventure.

  • Errera Channel – Possible sites in this area include Danco Island, Cuverville Island, and the lesser-known (though equally picturesque) Orne Island and Georges Point on Rongé Island.

  • You pass the Melchior Islands toward the open sea on your last day of near-shore activities. Keep a sharp lookout for humpback whales in Dallmann Bay. You might also shoot for Half Moon Island, in the South Shetlands, with further chances for activities.

Good to know! Weather conditions on the Drake Passage determine the exact time of departure.

Meals: All meals throughout the voyage aboard the ship, including snacks, coffee, and tea. Accommodation: Antarctica Expedition Cruise - External Cabin with windows.

DAYs
19-20

Sailing back from Antarctica

What you’ll do during the return:

  • While crossing the Drake, you’re again greeted by the vast array of seabirds remembered from the passage south. But they seem a little more familiar to you now and you to them.

As you can see, your return voyage is far from lonely!

Meals: All meals throughout the voyage aboard the ship, including snacks, coffee, and tea. Accommodation: Antarctica Expedition Cruise - External Cabin with windows.

DAY 21

 Antarctica, BACK TO USHUAIA

Every adventure, no matter how grand, must eventually end. It’s time to disembark in Ushuaia, but with memories that will accompany you wherever your next adventure lies.

We go from the ice back to Ushuaia. This unforgettable journey has come to an end. Every trip is different, but surely this one will be one of the best trips in your life!

Meals: All meals throughout the voyage aboard the ship, including snacks, coffee, and tea. Accommodation: Antarctica Expedition Cruise - External Cabin with windows. Check out in Ushuaia.

"Hello Maria and Good Morning Clara & Carolina

I hope that you are all well?

We’ve now been back in New Zealand for more than a week and it still seems a bit as though the past 4 weeks have all been a dream!!

We had an absolutely fantastic time and I can assure you that all of the group thoroughly enjoyed their experience in your diverse country and majestic Antarctica!

And it’s all thanks to you at ‘Team Across South America’ facilitated first by Letitia and then Carolina!! Everything you did for us worked seamlessly and that was due to the extra effort you applied to the organization of every last detail…

We very much appreciated the professionalism and friendliness of all of your guides and transfer drivers from Day 1 until we arrived at EZE to come home.

Too many outstanding things to mention individually but many, many thanks for everything you did for us and if you have an ‘official’ questionnaire that needs to be filled out please send it to me so and I will get it back to you by return…

Clara, it was great to meet you, albeit briefly, and if you are married now we hope everything went well…if not , then we hope that you have a wonderful day when it happens and we can one day meet here in Auckland or in BA??!!

Carolina, a pity that we weren’t able to get together but we hope that you are now 100% and definitely not still confined to bed??!! Our very best wishes for the birth of your baby and I know at some time I will be back in BA so hopefully we may have an opportunity to meet then? Or maybe you can get down here?

Happy Easter to all of you!

Best."
