Read on and discover the wonderful varieties of Chilean wines in our guide to the top wine regions and vineyards to visit in Chile: Maipo Valley, Casablanca Valley, Cachapoal Valley and Colchagua Valley.
1- The best Wine Regions in Chile: Maipo Valley
In the vicinity of Santiago, is the Maipo Valley, one of Chile’s most picturesque spots.
Maipo is a red-wine territory, home to some of the biggest wine brands in Chile. The valley is almost entirely dedicated to Cabernet Sauvignon.
The region hosts the main venues of the traditional Great Vineyards of Chile, such as Santa Rita, Undurraga, Concha y Toro, Tarapacá, Carmen, Cousiño Macul and Baron de Rothschild. The locally produced Don Melchor by Concha y Toro is considered among the best Cabernet Sauvignon in the country.
We can also find new Boutique Wineries such as Perez-Cruz, Haras de Pirque and De Martino, where it is possible to know the process for Premium and Ultra Premium Wine Development
2- The best Wine Regions in Chile: Casa Blanca Valley
Just an hour and a half from Santiago you will find Casablanca Valley & San Antonio, Chile’s top white wine region.
Known for the gentle breeze of the Pacific Ocean, the morning fog and the old granite clay soils that create a unique terroir and turn it into one of the main producers of white wine of Chile. Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are the stars, loved and envied by the rest of the world.
The higher, warmer and frost-free elevations favor red varieties such as Merlot and Syrah, while the lower and cooler areas are favorable for fresh and fruity whites with a minerality characteristic of the Casablanca Valley.
The valley presents Viñas of all types, being the Small Winemakers or Author Vinicultures, the undisputed protagonists of the Valley.
The best vineyards to visit in this Valley are Veramonte and Viña Matetic.

3- The best Wine Regions in Chile: Colchagua Valley
This Chilean Valley Is a Red Wine Paradise. The northern half of the great Rapel valley has traditionally been known for its red varieties, particularly Carmenere, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which account for approximately 80% of the region’s total production.
Of the varietals, carménère is certainly the star. Originally hailing from France but now nearly extinct in regions like Bordeaux, in Chile the grape is bottled as a single varietal wine, but it also mixes with the valley’s complementary harvest of malbec, cabernet sauvignon, and syrah.
Gentle ocean breezes and clay soils combine to create the conditions that produce some of the best carmeneres in the country.
4- The Best Wine Regions in Chile: Valle Cachapoal
Just a short drive from Colchagua is the much smaller Cachapoal Valley. Similar in climate, it also focuses on reds which constitute 90% of the grapes grown in the region. This (along with Colchagua) is where you’ll find some of the highest rated single-varietal Carménère in the world.
