All you need to know about the W Trekking Torres del Paine in Chile

If you are an adventurous traveler, you will instantly fall in love with Chile, the country that awaits visitors from all the world with an intact wilderness and exciting outdoor activities. The so-called W trekking Torres del Paine trail runs around the main tourist attractions of Chile.

Whether you dream about stargazing in the desert, sailing through millennial glaciers, exploring enchanted forests and massive volcanos or trekking pristine lands, Chile makes your dreams about nature come true and Torres del Paine’s W Trek is one of Chile’s most famous attractions for nature lovers.

W Trekking Torres del Paine: why it is called the W trek?

With an incredible natural beauty and an impressive variety of plant and animals, Torres del Paine is one of the most spectacular national parks in the country, and a perfect destination for adventure and sports enthusiasts, ecology aficionados, as well as hikers and backpackers. Trekking is without any doubt the best option to get to know Torres del Paine National Park

The park offers many beautiful spots, but the W Trek is Torres del Paine’s most famous hiking route. The route is called “W” because it connects three large valleys: the Ascencio Valley, the Francés Valley and the Grey Glacier Valley. This trail gives you the opportunity to admire unforgettable views of the park, especially of the granite towers that give the park its name.

W Trekking Torres del Paine: Trekking options

Just like there are different ways to explore the fascinating UNESCO Biosphere Reverse, you also have a few great trekking options which lasts between 4 and 8 days, walking through lenga forests, amazing lookouts and steep slopes. Get ready to push yourself to the limit!

All the trekking routes will give you the chance to catch sight of the main attractions of Torres del Paine National Park. So, you will see the three iconic highlights of the national park, Valle Francés, Base of the Towers, and Glacier Grey, whether you choose the most challenging route or an easy path, a six-day circuit, an eight-day escape or an express W trekking Torres del Paine adventure that will give you four days to get in touch with nature.

1- W circuit: The W in 5 days, 4 nights 2- W Express: The W in 4 days, 3 nights 3- The W Plus in 6 days, 5 nights 4- O circuit 8 days, 7 nights 5- W winter

For all this alternatives you can Choose to do the trek on your own and choose to sleep in campsite or mountain refugees, booking all by yourself.

Another option is to book a complete tour – this way you can leave the organization, gear rental, transportation, food and booking of campsites to local experts. Though you pay more you’ll get the full package this way including porters and a knowledgable guide.

Another option, that I highly recommend is to do the “W in Comfort” offered by Hotel Las Torres, where you will explore the 3 beautiful valleys that form the “W” circuit but each afternoon, you'll head back to the hotel to enjoy the comfort of our authentic estancia in the Chilean Patagonia.

W Trekking Torres del Paine: Best time to go

The Chilean Patagonia, and Torres del Paine national park, can be visited year-round, but The Experience you will have in the park will be very different according to the season you decide to visit the park.

If you are planning to do the W trekking Torres del Paine, Mid-end of March I consider one of the best times of year to hike the more popular trails. The colors of the leaves are truly spectacular in autumn in Patagonia and the park is quieter. Days are getting shorter, but with daylight from around 7.30am to 8pm you’ll still have a full day of sun for your hike and The famous Patagonian wind is starting to die down.

Summertime ( December to march) you can Take full advantage of the 17 hours of daylight for hiking and Warm temperatures but consider that is the high season in Torres de Paine, The park will be busy, and the trails will be trodden by hundreds of hikers a day.

Other alternatives to the W Trek

W trekking Torres del Paine is one of those activities no travelers can forget. But before you adventure yourself into this wild experience, you should know that hiking isn’t your only option. You can also choose horse riding, kayaking or mountain biking at the end of your trek and experience the natural beauty of the park in a whole different way.

W Trekking Torres del Paine: Book in advance

Please make sure to reserve your adventure in advance. The W trek is the most popular one of the park and visitor numbers increased during the last years, specially if you are traveling during summer in march.
