LAND BORDERS OPEN: We can finally inform you that from May 1 all land borders between Chile and Peru, Bolivia and Argentina, will be officially open.
The changing rules surrounding travel following covid-19 can be confusing. We are closely monitoring developments and have put together an overview of the latest covid entry requirement in South America in all destinations.
The rules continue to evolve, so may well change by the time you begin your trip. We recommend you click on the links for each country you plan to visit or transit to ensure you have the most up to date official guidelines.

Covid Entry Requirements to Travel to South America: ARGENTINA
Sworn statement within 48 hours before departure. See Argentina Arrival Form here
Medical travel insurance that includes hospitalization, quarantine, and transportation coverage of COVID-19 for those who tested positive, are a suspected case of COVID-19 infection, or are contact of a probable confirmed case.
People who enter by land for less than 24 hours will be exempt from the above requirements.
If you visit Argentina, and you are not vaccinated or have an incomplete vaccination schedule, we recommend you to take a test within 24 hours after entering the country.
Covid Entry Requirements to Travel to South America to Antarctica
There is no direct access to Antarctica. Travel is usually via Argentina, Chile or the Falkland Islands.
So, entry requirements are those of the country of departure.
Regarding Requirements from Antarctica operators, they all require travelers to be fully vaccinated and some may also require travelers to undergo mandatory local testing prior to boarding the ship as well as during the cruise.
Covid Entry Requirements to Travel to South America: BRAZIL
The only remaining requirement to enter Brazil is the proof of full vaccination status.
Travelers arriving in international flights, whether Brazilian or foreign, must provide proof of vaccination, printed or in electronic form, in Portuguese, English, or Spanish, to the airline responsible for the flight prior to boarding.
Covid Entry Requirements to Travel to South America: BOLIVIA
Travelers are allowed to enter Bolivia and Vaccinated travelers are not required to quarantine on arrival in Bolivia.
Fully vaccinated travelers are required to show a vaccination certificate dated at least 14 days before arrival in Bolivia
Travelers must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test result. The test must be taken a maximum of 72 hours before departure to Bolivia.
Travelers are required to complete a passenger locator form and present it to immigration on arrival
Travelers must have health insurance with coverage for COVID-19
Covid Entry Requirements to Travel to South America: CHILE
Full vaccination proof is required to enter Chile. Visitors must register their vaccination details with the Chilean authorities prior to travel to obtain a ‘mobility pass’ which can take up to one month to process. A Pre-arrival covid test: Yes, PCR within 72 hours of boarding the final flight for Chile is optional if Chile is at alert level 1. However we recommend getting tested anyway in case of a sudden change of alert level before arrival. A Random PCR or antigen tests are carried out upon on arrival at Santiago airport and the Entry is denied (and/or quarantine required) if the result is positive.
A Chile arrival form must also be completed 48 hours before arriving in Chile. This form will display a QR code as a means of verification. It is available at www.c19.cl.
